Upcoming events in October/November
Our little whanau is rapidly expanding here at The Reading Revolution!
We are about to have 7 new Reader Leaders training to deliver our Panui Tahi (shared reading groups). The marvellous Megg will be in NZ visiting family and is coming to train us up with Aotearoa’s first Read to Lead course on 23-25th November. Special thanks to TAPAC for hosting us!
Three of our placements on Read to Lead have been funded by our generous Give-a-little donations and Lotteries funding through the Support for Volunteering fund. Special thanks goes out to our mentors at DIA who guided us through an intense period of growth and development of our structure and policies that allowed us to become eligible for this. We would not have been able to achieve our goals without their leadership. Three of our volunteers are generously self funding their own Read to Lead training which is also amazing, thank you so much to them, again we couldn’t have achieved this without you!
The Reader Organisation have also kindly offered to give us one placement on Read to Lead as a gift to tautoko us in taking shared reading to the next level in Aotearoa. This is a fantastic gift that we really appreciate as it allows us to train two volunteers instead of one to lead a new Panui Tahi in the Auckland City Mission as a team. This group will be challenging for these volunteers and being able to train up both of them with the highest level of professional development will both ensure their safety and offer the best service to the City Mission community. So thank you TRO!
If anyone is interested in learning more about The Reading Revolution we have the first of our monthly coffee meet-ups starting:
November 18th at 1pm
Auckland Central City Library
Level 1 Te Marama Room.
This time will be a chance for new volunteers to get together, an ice breaker for the Read to Lead course and a chance for anyone to come and chat with the group about shared reading practice. Please RSVP via email if you would like to join us email@example.com
We have also been running a series of Panui Tahi taster sessions at Communicare centres. If you attend a Communicare friendship Centre and are interested in trying out shared reading please ask your centre manager to contact Sudha Bhana and request a session.
We currently run sessions at the Avondale, Royal Oak, Remuera and Ellerslie centres but are looking to build on this in the New Year when we have more trained Reader Leaders. We are really enjoying serving the Communicare community as they have been warm and welcoming hosts. We have already had some great feedback and look forward to getting great outcomes as we get to know the community better.
