I have worked as an artist and arts educator for the past 30 years in New Zealand. I have known Kate Middleton since our young boys played soccer together, she told me about The Reading Revolution programme.
When my elderly mother moved into Selwyn Village Point Chevalier we began going once a week to the shared reading group Kate ran at Selwyn.
It was a most enjoyable time and helped my mother integrate and build relationships. It is time I shared with her as a daughter, even though her eyesight was not that great she could listen to the stories.
Each week brings amazing moments of connection with the elderly group, as they share their lives, stories, thoughts and laughs.
Seeing the power of this shared reading made me want to train to be a Read to Lead practitioner and take this into other aged communities around Auckland.
