Rough Lives Speak!

Congratulations to the Street Poets and Artists Collective Enterprises (SPACE) on the release of their first fabulous poetry collection- Richard Whelan, Tim Gray, Lana Te Rore, John Joseph Hughes, Ta Iuli, and our very own Reading Revolution volunteer since 2016 Richard Nightingale! There are also beautiful portraits of the poets included by Filipo Tu’u. We were hosted by editor and facilitator of the writing workshops poet Daren Kamali at a wonderful evening to release the book at Auckland Libraries. Some of the poets read their work and it was great to also see the accompanying exhibition. Thank you so much to everyone for a lovely night, Lana told me she was really nervous but that the night was beautiful and she was really pleased so many people supported the event.

SPACE has opened a window into the street’s soul and created space for all kinds of poets and all kinds of poetry. This city needs this.” – Selina Tusitala Marsh

We hope that this fantastic project can be sustainable. If you know any creative writing tutors who would be keen to volunteer to support these poets one Friday a month for an hour please contact Daren Kamali through Auckland libraries or message us here through the site.
