Su’Ad says “I want to read all of 1985! I found it funny, deeply moving & the language is so alive, it’s kind of special! The form really works for me. It’s like Obi just came in & said you’re coming with me to Grey Lynn! The language is so poetic, there’s not a word wasted. Nothing unnecessary! “
B says growing up in Shanghai he loved arcades. He says it was a place for kids not welcome at school & not wanted at home. Good kids never went there. They would smoke & hang out & mildly bully outsiders & a community formed that was considered problematic so in 1990 the government banned anyone under 18 from arcades!! This reminded S of the Australian ban on social media for under 16 & we also talked a lot about people treating you wierd when you’re from a certain place.. we all had stories on that one & we went half an hour over time 😁
