Juliet Batten

Juliet Batten has a PhD in English and taught English, Women’s Studies, and Environmental Studies at the University of Auckland, before working for twenty-six years as a psychotherapist. She is the author of twelve books on the seasons, life stages, and sacred connection with nature.
This is the third book in Juliet Batten’s Seasons of Life trilogy. The first, The Pomegranate Journal, charts the challenge of how to live in an older body while staying open to the fullness of life. The second, The Persimmon Journal, explores the author’s rejuvenation after Covid lockdowns and parting with her bach after 53 years. The Pōhutukawa Journal explores an even deeper engagement with life after being reawakened into activism and expanded connection with nature.

  1. We had a cracker session with Juliet Batten at Te Awe Library,Welly this morning. We only did half. Finishing on Feb 19 – My friend the tree. We are going to read the rest next session. I let the group decide if they wanted to take the rest home to read now and they voted to wait. Tarns chose Let the Mountain Speak – Vilsoni Hereniko as the poem and they worked together well. I didn’t include the advance reviews of the book with the excerpts but read some afterwards. Everyone got it without the ‘Mansplaining’ as Tarns put it.
Can’t wait to hear Juliet next week. I had some of her other books there for people to look at too. Today was a good day for the revolution.

  2. Thanks so much to Juliet Batten Books & Murray Edmond for a fantastic evening! We learned about making friends with trees, elder wisdom & activism / listening & Juliet’s mum’s arts practice of placing opposites together – my favourite was Juliet writing juicy vs. dry – attendees honoured Juliet & how much her mahi has meant to them since 1969!!!
